December is upon is and its a very busy month in Castlewarden.

The Ladies Section played Yuletide Nines in beautiful sunshine on Tuesday 3rd December.  This event was sponsored by Angela Dunleavy and we are very grateful for this.  It was a shotgun start at 1.30 p.m. followed by a very tasty meal provided by Karl.  There was also lots of carol singing, banter and plenty of prizes, collected on the night.  Pro-shop vouchers, fabulous hampers and turkey vouchers were all collected by those lucky enough to win.  Congratulations to all who picked up prizes.   Well done to our Ladies Committee for organising this most enjoyable event.

Saturday December 7th and Santa comes to Castlewarden.  Up to fifty children will be meeting Santa and receiving their present from him and that will be followed by entertainment for the children.  Always a very popular and enjoyable social occasion in Castlewarden.   Lunch will be served in the bar afterwards.  This is a very busy event and if you haven't booked a table it is a good idea to do so by contacting the bar staff.

A big thank you to Teresa Flynn and Tom McHale for decorating our clubhouse.  The decorations just get better and better each year.

Sunday 15th sees the final day of the ever popular Mixed Peel.  It will be a shotgun start so keep an eye on the BRS to book your spot.  Sincere thanks to Les and Teresa Carroll for organising this event.

The hotly contested Winter Leagues for men and ladies are continuing.  Don't forget if you have put your name on a team and haven't managed to grace the fairways yet you need to get out and play for your team.  Your score could count towards your team score!
Following on from the AGM we wish the best of luck to our new President Bob Campbell on his new appointment.  Best wishes also to the following members who will be taking up new positions in our Club.

Michael Hannon Hon Treasurer, Joe McShane Vice President, Vincent Hendrick Captain, Deirdre Sheehy Lady Captain, Cormac Ryan Vice Captain, Ann O'Connor Lady Vice Captain, Sean Glynn Junior Captain.  Tony Bean will continue as Hon Sec.

We are in good hands for next year, a big year for Castlewarden GC in its thirtieth anniversary.  Thank you to our outgoing President Robert Carroll for a great years work.

IrishGolfer.ie published an article on October 30th about Lauren Walsh and her adventures in the East Lake Cup in the USA.

Congratulations and well done to President Robert Carroll on hosting a very enjoyable evening on Saturday night 12th October.  There was a packed clubhouse for the event.  Karl and  his team provided a a very tasty dinner to his usual high standard.  A most entertaining by Robert speech kept everyone entertained and that followed with good fun and banter.  All in all it was an excellent social event and brings President Roberts most successful year to an end.
A big thank you to our Professional Brian O'Brien for arranging this years trip (yet again).  The group went to Novo Santa Petri Spain for the fourth consecutive year due to its huge popularity.  A great time was had by all, both golfers and non golfers alike. There was three team events and plenty of fun and entertainment afterwards.  All enjoyed the fabulous facilities of the Iberostar Royal Andaluz, the spectacular golf courses and the company of friends and fellow golfers.  Congratulations to the many prizewinners.  Watch this space later in the year for details of next years trip.
Mixed Peel is back!  Mixed Peel is back on again Sunday 6th October. Booking on BRS.  Full members may invite three guests.  Lots of prizes and picky outs! A lovely way to spend your Sunday afternoon.  Best of luck to all those taking part. A big thank you to Les and Teresa Carroll for organising this most enjoyable event.
Congratulations to Katherine Moore on having a hole in one on Tuesday 17th September in Professional Brian O'Brien's Prize to the Ladies.  Well done Katherine and congratulations to all prize winners. Susan Hart 1st Prize and Katherine Moore 2nd Prize.   See Results for further details. Thank you to Brian O'Brien for his generous sponsorship.

Congratulations to all winners so far this year.  Don’t worry if you haven’t been a lucky winner yet, there are still a few more draws left in 2019 so it could be you next.

Just to re-cap where your money went this year.

New website.

Painting of foyer, upstairs landing, downstairs hall, corridor and entrance.

Sanding of the floor in the bar.

Cleaning of carpet in hall, stairs and dining room.

I think we all agree that this was money well spent and without the members draw it would not be possible to carry out this much needed facelift for our clubhouse.

Well done to our Vice President Bob Campbell for arranging all of this.

Castlewarden’s Lauren Walsh didn’t take long to announce herself on the collegiate scene in America after blasting her way to a seventh-place finish on her Wake Forest debut in South Carolina.

Lauren had seven birdies in a stunning final round of three-under par 69 to grab a tie for seventh at minus-five at the Cougar Classic.  Lauren’s contribution helped her new Wake Forest teammates to a second place finish in the team standings, one shot behind winners Vanderbilt.

It’s the continuation of some stunning summer form for Lauren after her top-10 finish as an amateur amongst the pros at last month’s ISPS Handa World Invitational at Galgorm Castle. Unsurprisingly, it was a performance that pleased Head Coach Kim Lewellen in Wake Forest.

The Management Committee were very sorry to learn that Dee from the office was moving on from her job with the club. Since Dee joined us in May 2016 her warm personality endeared her to all who had occasion to deal with her and ability and dedication was of the highest order . We wish Dee every success with her future plans and thank her for her time and commitment to Castlewarden Golf Club.

In finding a replacement for Dee we had a true challenge. But the gods have shone brightly on us and we are delighted to be able to confirm that from Weds 28th August Philippa Carr will taking up the position in the office. We are very lucky that we can replace one great member of staff with another.

Phillippa will be well known to you all and her commitment to the club and ability is out of the top drawer. We wish her well and look forward to her settling in and meeting you all over the coming weeks.

We are now back to full strength in the Office and we are indeed fortunate to have a strong team with Colette and Phillippa looking after all our Club Administration.

Congratulations to Michael Dwyer on winning gold at the World Transplant Games in Closehouse Golf Club, Newcastle.  This is a great achievement for Michael.  We at Castlewarden are very proud of you and this great achievement. Well done.

Congratulations to Peter Carty who won Captain David Kelly's Prize on Saturday 24th.  Peter had a great score of 142 over the two days.  Well done Peter.  Congratulations also to Dolores Gavin on winning Captains Prize to the Ladies and Daniel Furey who won the Captains Prize to the Juniors.  Well done to all prize winners.
